The training Gender Equality in the Hands of Youth Workers concluded on Monday 14th of April with a special visit from Peer Krumrey, Counsellor and Head of Labour and Social Affairs at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Together with representatives from the GIZ, Mr. Krumrey joined participants for an open and inspiring conversation on gender equality, feminist development policy, youth work in Germany, LGBTQ+ rights and many more. This event reaffirmed the essential role youth workers play in building more inclusive communities—starting from the grassroots and growing toward lasting change. Mr. Krumrey pointed out that it is especially important to sensitize young people to gender issues, as they are the future decision-makers and community leaders.
This training gathered 20 youth workers from across Serbia, equipping them with tools to recognize and address gender inequality in their daily work with young people—especially in rural areas where traditional norms are still strong. Participants explored topics such as gender identity, stereotypes, and gender-based violence, and developed skills to create safe, inclusive spaces for all youth.
The training is part of the project Rural Approach to Youth Work Empowerment, implemented by NAPOR. It was carried out under the umbrella of German development cooperation in Serbia, implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, as part of broader efforts to increase the social, cultural and economic opportunities for young people in rural areas of Serbia.
